One Excellence Phase II: Illuminating Architecture with Rhythmic Light and Shade

A Lighting Design that Breathes Life into a Large Commercial Complex

The One Excellence Phase II project, designed by Yanchih Wang, is a remarkable example of how lighting design can transform a large commercial complex into a living, breathing urban building. The design team, led by Yanchih Wang, believed that concise and pure white light could better emphasize the building's structural characteristics. By carefully embedding lighting fixtures into the curtain wall, they were able to create a dynamic interplay of light and shade, showcasing the vitality of the architecture.

The lighting design of One Excellence Phase II was realized using customized luminaires placed inside the curtain wall. The goal was to reproduce the natural sunlight's play of light and shadow on the facade during the daytime. By capturing the unique textures and features of light and shadow left by the sunlight, the design team created a lighting scheme that emphasized a sense of rhythmic breathing and vitality.

The technical specifications of the project include a building height of approximately 300 meters and a total area of 450 million square meters. These impressive figures highlight the scale and ambition of One Excellence Phase II.

The design team, consisting of various entities including Excellence Group, TFP Farrells, Shenzhen Grandland Fangte Tech-construction Group Co., Ltd, and GD Lighting Design, worked collaboratively to bring this project to life. Yanchih Wang, the chief lighting designer, along with team members Hui Ren and Weiliang Kong, played crucial roles in shaping the lighting design.

The lighting design of One Excellence Phase II not only showcases the rational beauty of the building but also highlights its inner vitality. The interlaced vertical light on the facade, combined with the glinting building materials, creates a mesmerizing visual experience. The completion of One Excellence Phase II took place in October 2019 in Qianhai, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. This location provided the perfect backdrop for the project, with its vibrant urban environment serving as a testament to the design's success.
